Ruggedized polymer fibre assemblies from OMC address challengin environment applications
Includes aramid tension member reinforcement and abrasion and crush resistant jacket
Oct 2014…OMC, the pioneer in optoelectronics and manufacturer of the industry’s widest range of high reliability fibre optic transmitters and receivers for industrial data-communications applications, now offers 1mm core polymer fibre optic cable with a reinforced jacket incorporating aramid tension members to address challenging environment applications.
Available in both Simplex (5.0mm jacket diameter) and Duplex (2.2mm jacket diameter) versions, this fibre is far more resistant to crush and abrasion than standard polymer fibre, and the aramid tension members help prevent longitudinal stretching, which could otherwise cause damage to terminated ends if cables are pulled or dragged during installation or use.
Comments OMC’s Commercial Director, William Heath: “Polymer fibre is generally much more durable than glass and can be used with low cost Tx and Rx devices. Therefore it is perfectly suited for a host of applications, including short distance datacomms; industrial and office networking; medical illumination and sensing; signs, signalling and lighting. The addition of a ruggedized jacket allows it to be specified, for the first time, in environments with even more challenging physical conditions.”
OMC can produce fully terminated ruggedized polymer fibre-optic cable assemblies, which complement their range of over 50 transmitter/receiver devices available as standard products, produced using the company’s proprietary ACA™ (Active Component Alignment) technology which ensures total consistency from link to link.
