The manufacture and testing of high performance optical fibre cable assemblies is a highly specialised field.

There are many sources of low-cost fibre “patch cords”, designed mainly for computer network and AV applications. These are generally produced to a relaxed tolerance, and sold as a “cheap and cheerful” way to transmit an optical signal. And while they might be fine for very short distance, low speed datalinks, where optical budgets are designed to allow for the very high and inconsistent losses this style of cable brings, they're simply not suitable for industrial applications. Here, performance is critical, and a cable assembly is justifiably expected to perform for decades.

OMC, among just a handful of companies worldwide, has the level of technical expertise and production skills needed to handle, polish and terminate fibre to the standard required for industrial grade fibre optic cable assemblies.
